The world of photography does not stand still, and trends change at a rapid pace. Today it’s trendy to take photos with filters à la Instagram, and tomorrow it’s phishy shots. So, let’s find out the biggest innovation for 2022 in Photography Technology!
Some 2022 Trends
Rustic Style Backgrounds
Rustic (note natural, natural, ethnic) style backgrounds are the basis for many images, from food photos to product layouts for advertising purposes. Its naturalness provides a neutral background that looks harmonious and attractive overall. It has a nice color and texture, in addition, it does not argue with the main elements of the photo.
Options for rustic photo backgrounds include:
- Elements of stone, such as slate (pictured above)
- Wood texture
- Grass
- Trees/ground surface
- Stumps or logs
Photographs with An Air of High Drama
These breathtaking photos can make a significant impact on a project. They are some of the most current in design and can come naturally, but most of the most interesting elements are still subject to processing.
High drama photos include:
- Things that look almost unreal.
- Vivid or unusual color
- Strong proximity.
- Beautiful natural elements, such as a multicolored sky
- High contrast, as an option: color on black and white
- Lighting effects
- Emphasis on large elements or those that appear larger than they are in real life
Science-Oriented Photos
Perhaps the talk of vaccines is contributing to the fact that people are increasingly referring to science in their thinking. This trend is becoming trendy in photography as well. You’ll probably start to see more images of people wearing aprons, masks, or gloves photographed in the lab. You will also come across pictures of beakers, test tubes, or measuring instruments that are taken close-up showing all the details. The theme of space may also be touched on here.
Silhouettes Are Back in Vogue
Look at them from different angles. You might see a person photographed close-up; their silhouette is visible due to the light in the background. Or a shot with a wider angle, where the background is the focus and the silhouette of the person (or people) serves as more of an accent to the image. The advantage of these photos is that they can be used to show different areas of focus, such as a shot in which the person doesn’t stand out in the overall image. Silhouettes are a great option if you’re working with stock illustrations, don’t want to show specific people, or think about things like fashion trends (the style of clothing on the models allows you to quickly determine if the photo is current or outdated).
Outdoor Activities Alone
The COVID-19 pandemic was the impetus for another trend in photography – outdoor recreation alone: from images of amazing hikes to jogging and bike rides. People are getting outdoors more than ever, as these beautiful photos demonstrate. Images of outdoor activities may also be the result of the rapid growth of businesses and product lines that produce outdoor sports and recreational clothing (which is also somewhat related to the pandemic). Regardless of the reason for these photos, the trend is impressive and aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Subtle Filters
The influence of social media is evident in the use of subtle filters, even for photos outside of Instagram. The most popular application of this trend manifests itself by softening the light in the photo, resulting in a slight hint of color. The almost muted tone is barely discernible and gives the image a more distinct shape.
Photos with Artistic Elements
Another trend from social media: is the combination of reality and drawing in a photo. Such illustrations are often bright and interesting, with a lot of attention paid to artistic elements, such as a mural or graffiti. The subject of the image may be clearly defined or it may just have a hint of a human presence. For example, the photo above shows only hands in a strong artistic background. Such images are full of color, depth and reflect a creative approach to photography.
Bird’s Eye View
Thanks to drone photography, projects are increasingly using images that show objects from a bird’s eye view. This is a popular technique for working with photos that capture events or locations. The one-piece composition makes them more impactful. Not all images taken from an old drone will look beautiful. To create a bird’s-eye view photo that draws the viewer’s attention, you need the right settings.
Look for images with clear shapes, recognizable features, and an overall creative focus. It’s hard to explain, you’ll know what it’s about if you look at the example photo. It will catch the viewer’s attention the moment they try to look at all the details of the frame.
Masks and Distance
Because of the pandemic, much of the world’s population has decided in favor of wearing masks and maintaining social distance. This transformation can also be seen in the field of photography. A good and contemporary photograph accurately portrays reality, and the use of masks in it is a demonstration of the current situation. Images may show people wearing masks that completely cover parts of their faces. The masks may be worn partially, this also occurs in real life.
People standing far apart and the absence of crowds is another feature of this trend in photography because it reflects the current reality.
NHK Announced the Creation of an 8K Camera That Captures 240 Frames Per Second
Japanese engineers division of the Science and Technology Research Laboratories and the Japanese broadcasting company NHK announced the creation of the first 8K camera capable of recording video at up to 240 frames per second. According to the developers – this is the world’s first camera with such capabilities. NHK has been working in this direction for quite some time and has placed its main bet on 8K resolution. However, it is worth noting that even with today’s level of technology in Japan, this video resolution is still not widespread.
That’s It!
Of course, we can never say with certainty that new trends will not emerge in the process, displacing their predecessors. Nevertheless, the most noticeable trends look like this at the moment. And whether or not to follow them, the decision is entirely yours. If you deny fashion, then all we can advise is to listen to your own preferences and do what you like. Believe me, you can never go wrong!
